[ARCHIVED] Get Ready for Bitterly Cold Weather January 18-21

Deep Freeze tips for weather forecast January 18-21.

A deep freeze will arrive Saturday night through Tuesday night, January 18-21!

The coldest
conditions will be Sunday and Monday nights with wind chills of -15 to -25 Fexpected, locally as low as -30 F.

Frostbite is possible within about 30
minutes in these conditions!

GENERAL TIPS:

  • Do not use your stove/oven for heating your residence.
  • Make sure you have enough distance when using space heaters.
  • Check in with your elderly neighbors and those that need a little extra help.
  • Restock your pocket hand warmers.
  • Double check your vehicle preparedness kit.

AVOID FROSTBITE:

  • Take it easy. Shoveling heavy snow or walking in deep snow can cause a heart attack for any age.
  • Loose fitting, warm clothing worn in layers will insulate better and keep you warmer.
  • Keep your feet and hands as dry as possible.
  • Stay covered.
  • Wear mittens or gloves.
  • At least half of your body heat is lost if your head is not covered…so wear a hat.

WARMING CENTERS:

The Warrenville Park District Recreation Center (3S260 Warren Avenue) is a designated Warming Center with operating hours listed below:
