[ARCHIVED] Things to Know for Drinking Water Week

Drinking water week May 7-13

Drinking Water Week is May 7-13 and the perfect time to learn about how the City ensures residents have a safe, clean water supply.

Did you know?

* Utility Division staff monitor water and respond to emergencies 24 hours a day year-round.

* They also oversee construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of 77 miles of water main, 4 wells, 3 water towers, 59 miles of sanitary sewer, 11 sanitary lift stations, and 1,023 fire hydrants. 

* The City’s water supply comes from groundwater taken from the Silurian-Devonian underground aquifer, which is located a couple hundred feet beneath the surface of the earth. More on the City’s water supply: https://www.warrenville.il.us/721/Water

* Warrenville tap water meets all United States Environmental Protection Act (USEPA) drinking water health standards.  

* The City’s Utility Division staff serves about 4,900 resident and commercial properties.

Green Goddess

1. In a large pitcher, place a combination of cucumber, thyme, and lime. 

2. Add ice and fill container with water.

Fresh Rain Water

1. In a large pitcher, place a combination of cucumber, lemon, and celery, to preference. 

2. Add ice and fill container with water.

Make It Your Way 

1. In a large pitcher, place a combination of fruit or herbs. Experiment and have fun! 

2. Add ice and fill container with water.

Summer Squeeze 

1. In a large pitcher, place a combination of strawberries, 1 lemon, and a few sprigs of mint, to your preference. 

2. Add ice and fill container with water.

Apple of My Eye 

1. In a large pitcher, place a combination of sliced apple, lemon, and carrot. 

2. Add ice and fill container with water.

Note: Remove any fruit, vegetables, or herbs after 24 hours. The infused water can be refrigerated for up to 3 more day (4 days total).
