[ARCHIVED] City Will Repair Sidewalk Trip Hazards

Graphic titled “Sidewalk Repair Project” with two photos showing a before-and-after sidewalk repair.

The City of Warrenville will repair sidewalks in several areas of the community to improve pedestrian safety.

In 2025, the City hired a firm to evaluate sidewalks and identify locations where uneven pavement created potential tripping hazards. The review identified 417 sidewalk locations suitable for repair using a saw-cutting method that smooths uneven edges.

The evaluation focused on sidewalk panels where the vertical difference between sections measured 5/8 inch or greater, which can create a trip hazard.

Many of the repairs are located in neighborhoods between Mack Road and Continental Drive.

Saw-cutting allows crews to smooth raised sidewalk panels without removing and replacing the entire section. This approach improves safety while reducing cost and disruption.

All sidewalk repairs will follow Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility guidelines.

What residents may notice

  • Crews working along sidewalks in residential areas

  • Equipment used to grind or cut uneven sidewalk edges

  • Short-term construction noise

  • Work that moves quickly from one location to the next

This repair method allows crews to improve safety while minimizing disruption to surrounding lawns, landscaping, and sidewalks.
