[ARCHIVED] Did You Know? All About EV Rebates & New State Law

Electric vehicles rebates and new state law

ComEd offers rebates to businesses and public sector entities when they transition to electric vehicles and install charging infrastructure. Residents become eligible for rebates when they install an EV charger at their home.

Rebates for business owners and public entities:

  • up to $180,000 in rebates for electrifying their vehicles.
  • up to $8,000 per port in rebates  for make-ready electrical charging infrastructure for L2 chargers and up to $1,000/kW for infrastructure serving DCFC chargers.

Electric vehicle charger and installation rebates for residents:

  • up to a $3,750* rebate on Level 2 EV charging equipment and installation costs.

New state law requiring EV chargers in new residential developments:

Illinois requires all new single family and small scale multifamily (4 units or less) to be EV charger capable as of January 1, 2024.

This means that the conduit or piping for the electric lines must be in place for all new homes. The law further requires all other multifamily buildings to be EV capable as of April 1, 2024.

The City will enforce this new law for new residential developments.
