[ARCHIVED] he U.S. Census Bureau Will Hold a Special Census for the City in 2024

Special Census in 2024

The U.S. Census Bureau will hold a special census in 2024 for Warrenville. Why? So the City will have an accurate population count.

Why does it matter? Accurate population numbers make the City eligible for more state and federal money. This helps fund City services such as street repair, public safety, and more. Census data also helps the City plan for the future.

The 2020 Census reported Warrenville's population as 13,553. But the 2020 census did not get data from several newer developments. This includes residents of Everton, Lexington Trace, Arden, Westlyn, and Riverview West.

The City estimates an accurate population count could result in $244,528 of revenue each year. This includes three taxes distributed by the state: income tax, local use tax, and motor fuel tax.

What does the Census cover?

Residents fill out a short list of questions about their name, age, sex, race, and housing structure.

How will the Special Census work?

Now through February 2024: The U.S. Census Bureau will hire field representatives. Those representatives will help collect data. They will visit Warrenville homes and interview residents for the survey. Learn more and apply at: census.gov/communityjobs

April 30-May 23, 2024: The Special Census becomes available online. Residents can use a link or QR code to complete the survey. The Census Bureau will send letters and postcards in April and May with the survey link. The City will also share survey links, via:

  • The City's monthly newsletter, Hometown Happenings. Look for the link and QR code in the April and May issues.
  • The City’s Facebook Page, https://www.facebook.com/CityOfWarrenville
  • FYI Warrenville, the City’s weekly e-newsletter, which is also shared to Facebook. Subscribe at: https://www.warrenville.il.us/list.aspx?ListID=273
  • The electronic signboard at Butterfield and Batavia roads
  • Channel 10 (available to Comcast subscribers)
  • Social media and flyers shared with community partners, civic organizations, churches, HOAs, and more

June 13 through July 12, 2024. Field workers visit residents who did not fill out the census online. Field reps will go door-to-door to daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., including weekends.

The City’s updated population data will be listed under a Special Census date of June 1, 2024.

Everyone counts! We ask all residents to take part in the Special Census. Responding is important, easy, and quick - your response only takes 10 minutes!
