Now that we have snow and cold weather, here are a few ways you can prepare:

NO STREET PARKING AFTER 2" SNOWFALL: 

The City prohibits parking on the street for 24 hours after two inches (2") or more of snow - or until the street or roadway has been cleared. This allows crews to efficiently and safely remove snow curb to curb. 

They plow primary streets first, followed by side streets, cul-de-sacs, and school crossings near schools.

The Warrenville Park District Recreation Center is open as a warming center during normal hours: 3S260 Warren Avenue

HOURS:

Monday–Thursday: 5:30 a.m.–9:00 p.m.

Friday: 5:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m.

Saturday: 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

Sunday: 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

Need overnight help?

Call the Warrenville Police non-emergency line at (630) 393-2131 (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.).

After hours, call 9-1-1 and ask for the on-duty Sergeant or Corporal.

PREVENT FROZEN PIPES:

• Keep your thermostat set to at least 50–55 degrees
• Open cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls
• Insulate pipes in cold or drafty areas like basements
• Disconnect garden hoses from outside faucets.
• Allow warm air near your water meter.
• Seal vents and crawl spaces.
• Let water trickle on extremely cold nights.

KEEP HYDRANTS CLEAR:

If there is a fire hydrant nearby, consider digging a path around it to help fire staff.

BE SALT SMART: 

Road salt is used to keep roads safe, but too much salt damages vehicles and infrastructure, harms pets and plants, and degrades rivers and wetlands. 

City staff attend annual trainings and deicing workshops to learn best practices when using salt.

WINTERIZE LAWN SPRINKLERS: 

• If the backflow preventer is outdoors, blow it out or remove and store it someplace warm for the winter. Cover it with a blanket, towels, or similar item. 
• Plumbing Code requires testing the backflow preventer upon re-installation every season by a certified tester. 
• Test results are then submitted online at TrackMyBackflow.com by the tester. 

MAILBOX MAINTENANCE: 

Mailboxes take a beating from the weather, so conduct an annual mailbox checkup: 

• Tighten loose hinges on the door
• Take care of rusty or loose parts
• Replace missing or faded house numbers
• Keep the path to your mailbox clear
