TGIF. It's time for the City's weekly recap to help us stay better connected, informed, and prepared.

Let's go…

A graphic that says "did you know?"
Graphic with text: “All household batteries must now be brought to special collection. It’s the law!” Image shows several types of batteries, including AA batteries, a phone battery, a power tool battery, a 9-volt battery, and small button batteries. Bottom text reads: “Batteries Are Everywhere #KnowBeforeYouThrow,” with an Illinois icon on the left and a symbol showing batteries should not go in trash or recycling on the right.

How to Recycle Your Household Batteries

Got old batteries at home? Here’s the good news: battery recycling just got easier, and it’s FREE.

As of January 1, 2026, Illinois’ new Portable and Medium Format Battery Stewardship Act (SB3686) requires battery manufacturers to support battery collection at no cost to residents.

That means loose household batteries (regular and rechargeable) should go to a battery drop-off site, not your trash or recycling cart.

Find a free, local drop-off location here: Battery Recycling

Graphic titled “Calling City Hall…” with a photo of the City Hall entrance shown on a smartphone. Text explains the City will use a phone tree during business hours due to a temporary staffing shortage and lists the main number (630) 836-3050. Phone tree options include: Press 1 for non-emergency police matters; Press 2 for permits, licensing, zoning, and code enforcement; Press 3 for water and sewer billing or to start or end service; Press 4 for all other matters. City Hall Phone Tree for Calls to (630) 836-3050

To better serve residents during a temporary staffing shortage, the City is now using a phone tree for calls to our main number during business hours: (630) 836-3050.

This does not impact emergency calls. Please continue to report emergencies by calling 9-1-1.

After selecting an option, you will still connect with a live person for assistance.

Phone tree options:

• Press 1 for non-emergency police matters

• Press 2 for permits, licensing, zoning, and code enforcement

• Press 3 for water and sewer billing or to start or end water or sewer service

• Press 4 for all other matters

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
