With snow in the Thanksgiving weekend forecast, we offer some reminders about no street parking if there is 2 inches or more of snow.

Winter and Snow Reminders

Thanksgiving weekend may bring a little snow. Here are some things to know:

TRAVEL TIPS:

• Use the Illinois Department of Transportation's website, Getting Around Illinois. You can find information on winter road conditions and view their live traffic cameras at: Winter Travel

NO STREET PARKING IF 2" OR MORE SNOW:

• The City prohibits parking on the street for 24 hours after 2 inches (2") or more of snow - or until the street or roadway has been cleared. This allows crews to efficiently and safely remove snow curb-to-curb.

MANAGE USE OF ROAD SALT:

• Be salt smart. Road salt is used to keep roads safe, but too much salt damages vehicles and infrastructure, harms pets and plants, and degrades rivers and wetlands.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE A POWER OUTAGE:

• If you have a power outage, contact ComEd:

1. Text OUT to 26633 (COMED) to report the outage and receive restoration information

2. Call 1-800 EDISON1 (1-800-334-7661)

3. Report outages on their website at: Report an outage

Holiday cooking tips to help prevent home fires.

Avoid Home Cooking Fires During the Holidays

Have a safe Thanksgiving, and please practice turkey fryer safety using these tips from Warrenville Fire Protection District:

• Stay away from the house – Set up the turkey fryer more than 10 feet away from your home and other structures.

• Find flat ground – The oil must always be even and steady to be safe.

• Use a thawed and dry turkey – Extra water will cause the oil to bubble and spill over.

• Be prepared – Have a fire extinguisher ready at all times in the event that the oil ignites.
