Smoke Testing of Sanitary Sewer Mains Begins Soon

📅 August 5-8, 2025

🕗 Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

📍 Affected area: Multiple streets (see list below)

Routine smoke testing helps identify places where stormwater or groundwater may be entering the system and helps prevent sewer overflows.

What is Smoke Testing?

Crews blow non-toxic, odorless white smoke into sewer lines.

What You Need to Know:

• The smoke is non-toxic and harmless to people, pets, plants, and furnishings.

• If smoke enters your home, run water in all sinks, showers, and drains to fill plumbing traps.

• You do not need to be home but please keep pets secured and windows closed during testing hours.

• Crews will be in marked vehicles and wear City of Warrenville logo apparel.

If You See Smoke Indoors:

• Open windows to air out the space.

• Contact the City right away.

• It may signal a plumbing issue that needs repair.

📍 Testing will take place on these streets:

• 2nd Street

• Jefferson Street

• Main Street

• Greenview Avenue

• Parkview Avenue

• Galusha Avenue

• Virginia Avenue

• Haylett Avenue

A reminder to wear insect repellent to avoid mosquito bites and West Nile Virus.

Prevent West Nile Virus

Hot weather means mosquitoes can grow and spread faster—some types can go from eggs to adults in just 7 days.

That means more chances for West Nile virus to spread.

Help protect yourself and your family:

🦟 Use insect repellent with EPA-registered ingredients.

🦟 Stay indoors at dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are most active.

🦟 Wear long sleeves, pants, socks, and shoes when you're outside.

🦟 Keep windows and doors closed at night.

🦟 Empty any standing water.
