Smoke Testing of Sanitary Sewer Mains Begins Soon

Routine smoke testing helps identify places where stormwater or groundwater may be entering the system and helps prevent sewer overflows.
What is Smoke Testing?
Crews blow non-toxic, odorless white smoke into sewer lines.
What You Need to Know:
• The smoke is non-toxic and harmless to people, pets, plants, and furnishings.
• If smoke enters your home, run water in all sinks, showers, and drains to fill plumbing traps.
• You do not need to be home but please keep pets secured and windows closed during testing hours.
• Crews will be in marked vehicles and wear City of Warrenville logo apparel.
If You See Smoke Indoors:
• Open windows to air out the space.
• Contact the City right away.
• It may signal a plumbing issue that needs repair.
