A Night of Farewell and New Beginnings for the City

📅 May 5 marked a meaningful moment in Warrenville’s history—celebrating outgoing Mayor David Brummel’s service and swearing-in our new Mayor, Andrew Johnson.

Thank you, Mayor Brummel!

After 20 years as Mayor—and a total of 28 years in elected service—Mayor Brummel was honored by community members, elected officials, and staff.

🔹 The evening included a special surprise: a custom tandem bike sculpture by local artist Jen Kresl of Steel Envy, featuring the City logo, a bike path, and Mayor Brummel’s two dogs, Conrad and Diesel.

🔹 Mayor Brummel shared heartfelt thanks, especially to his wife, Mary, and reflected on his time in office with a quote from Robert Frost:

“In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.”

Welcome, Mayor Johnson!

Mayor Andrew Johnson was sworn in as Warrenville’s sixth mayor. A lifelong resident and proud NIU graduate, he brings decades of public service and leadership experience.

🔹 Past service includes roles on the Park District Board, Plan Commission, Community Unit School District 200 Board, and Student Excellence Foundation

🔹 Regional and national leadership roles with the DuPage Foundation, Morton Arboretum, and National Safety Council

🔹 Committed to transparency, integrity, and serving the people of Warrenville.

Join us in thanking Mayor Brummel and welcoming Mayor Johnson as we look ahead to Warrenville’s next chapter.

Important Safety Update About Tornado Sirens

📢 An upgraded emergency alert system in DuPage County activates outdoor warning sirens more quickly during tornado warnings, giving people more time to get to safety.

What to Know:

Quicker Alerts: Because the new system is faster, you may hear sirens before you get a National Weather Service alert on your phone or device. Don’t wait—if you hear the sirens, take shelter right away.

No “All Clear” Siren: There is no “all clear” signal. If the sirens sound again, it means there’s a new warning. Stay in your safe place until the threat has passed.

When there's a tornado warning, have multiple ways to receive weather warnings:

  • Activate emergency alerts on your cell phone
  • Check www.weather.gov/lot/severeprepare for updates
  • Tune in to local TV or radio stations
  • Have a NOAA weather radio ready
