Fall Fire Hydrant Flushing * Fall Fire Hydrant Flushing started Monday, September 9 * The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends flushing hydrants twice a year. * This routine maintenance removes rust or metal particles from the hydrant, which can cause corrosion. * Hydrant flushing will last through the first week of October. * During hydrant flushing the water may appear cloudy or discolored or even contain some sediment for a short time. * Open faucets and let the water run to help clear this up. * Water is safe to drink during this time even if it looks different.
