Statement of Arrest and Charging of City Administrator

The City is aware of the unfortunate circumstances regarding the arrest and charging of John Coakley, Warrenville’s city administrator, following an incident at a local fitness club.

Upon learning of his arrest on Sunday evening, the City immediately placed Mr. Coakley on temporary paid administrative leave, pending further inquiry. The Mayor has named Assistant City Administrator Cristina White to serve as acting city administrator.

Mr. Coakley’s alleged misconduct occurred during non-work time.  Nonetheless, the City is taking this matter very seriously given the leadership role Mr. Coakley has with the City of Warrenville.

The Warrenville Police Department initiated its investigation on Sunday after receiving a complaint about the incident and contacted the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office in order to share relevant information and determine whether charges were appropriate.  The Warrenville Police Department will continue to assist prosecutors with the investigation as this case proceeds.
