In recognition of this nationwide event, students from Bower and Johnson Elementary Schools began their Wednesday morning by walking to school, where Bower students were greeted by Fire Chief Rogers, and Johnson students received a short pep talk from Mayor Brummel and Fire Marshal Westrom before the start of the school day. Bower and Johnson parents, PTA members, and school staff were also on hand to provide encouragement to the children.
The National Walk to School Day event strives to raise awareness of the need to create safer routes to school, and emphasizes the importance of increasing physical activity amongst youth by promoting healthy communities and alternative and active transportation choices on their routes to and from school.
