On Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. CST, the National Weather Service will be conducting a tornado warning system test in conjunction with Severe Weather Preparedness Week. The test will be broadcast using the typical monthly outdoor warning siren, as well as through television and radio. The live test will contain specific language throughout the message and within the audio portion of the broadcast, to clearly indicate it is only a test.
This particular exercise occurs in Illinois each year on the first Tuesday of March. If actual severe weather is imminent or occurring at the time the test is being conducted, it will be postponed until the following day (Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. CST).
