Forest Preserve District Fleet Maintenance Facility

The Forest Preserve District (FPD) has proposed a new fleet maintenance facility at Blackwell Forest Preserve on the north side of Mack Road, near Williams Road, in unincorporated Warrenville.  The project is scheduled to go out to bid and begin construction in 2017.  More information about the project can be found on the FPD website here.

The FPD required the extension of City water to serve their facility, so the City and FPD negotiated two Intergovernmental Agreements (IGA).

City Council passed Ordinance No. 2975 on January 18, 2016, approving an IGA between the FPD and the City regarding the design, funding, implementation and maintenance of a water main system.  The water main system will be an extension of the City’s water main on Williams Road from Iroquois Court North to Mack Road; on Mack Road from Williams Road to the west side of the FPD nursery property; and along the west side of the FPD nursery property from Mack Road to Forestview Drive North. The FPD is scheduled to open bids on the project in late March 2017 and award the contract in early April 2017.  Construction is anticipated to be completed by September 2017.  The FPD has a webpage dedicated to this project.

City Council passed Ordinance No. 2976 on January 18, 2016, approving an IGA between the FPD and the City regarding the design, funding, implementation and maintenance of three trail improvement projects.  The IGA outlines the City and FPD commitments to timing, funding, implementation, and maintenance of the three potential projects.

  1. Mack Road Multi-Use Trail – The scope of this project is to construct a path along Mack Road, between IL Route 59 and the McKee Marsh Forest Preserve.  The City received federal Surface Transportation Program (STP) funding in 2015.  The City is coordinating with the FPD during Phase I Engineering design, which is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2017.  Phase II Engineering is anticipated to begin in early 2018, with construction anticipated in one of the following years.
  2. Warrenville Grove Interpretive Trail – The scope of this project is a new multi-use interpretive trail along the west bank of the West Branch DuPage River, between the Illinois Prairie Path and the Warrenville Grove Forest Preserve parking lot.  Work on this project has not begun yet.
  3. Trail Connection between Maple Hill and Fox Hollow – The scope of this project is a trail connection between the north edge of the City’s Ascot Lane right-of-way and the south edge of the Maple Hill Subdivision, through FPD property.  The City has been unsuccessful in its application for STP funding, so far.
