Information to Know about Natural Gas Suppliers

Getting calls or visits by natural gas suppliers? Are they asking to see your Nicor bill or telling you that they are Nicor's preferred provider? Per City Code, to protect the residents from unreliable solicitors, door-to-door solicitors are required to secure a license from the City. Solicitors are required to carry identification that includes their name, the name of their employer, a brief description of their business, and the dates of their solicitation. Residents may ask to see this identification. Licenses are valid only between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. and solicitors are not permitted on Sunday or on a state or national holiday. Any solicitor violating these provisions should be reported to the Police Department immediately via 911.

In Warrenville, all residents use Nicor to deliver natural gas to their homes. In addition, Nicor Gas sells natural gas on a benchmark, market rate, however, Illinois residents have a choice of buying their natural gas from other, competing suppliers. Nicor Gas does not endorse or recommend any specific supplier.

Depending on the supplier, you will find some offers that lock in your natural gas price and others that compete with Nicor Gas' monthly gas supply charges. By comparing offers and making the choice that's best for you, you may be able to save money on the cost of your natural gas. To learn more about natural gas supply and customer choice, click the link below, which will take you to an informational page that was created by the Illinois Commerce Commission - the state agency that regulates utilities. The site will provide guidance on understanding and making your own choices.

There are currently no community aggregation programs for natural gas supply (as there is for electricity); therefore no municipality sponsors or recommends any supplier over another.
